Attendance Procedures & Reporting
Procedures and policies regarding student attendance
Attendance
Regular attendance is necessary for maximum student achievement in school. In addition, punctuality and dependability in meeting assigned responsibilities are personal behavior habits valued in our society. To help students develop desirable behavior patterns, as well as maximize their classroom learning, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) requires that students be punctual and regular in school class attendance. (FCPS Regulation 2234.7)
Absences and late arrivals must be reported to the office by 9:00 a.m. via one of the following methods

ParentVUE
- Beginning in the 24-25 school year, parents/legal guardians can submit full-day absences using ParentVUE. Learn more about attendance reporting through ParentVUE.
Bell Schedule
Students may enter the school building at 8:35 a.m. and classes begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. Parents are urged to have their student arrive on time. Students must be in their classrooms at 8:45 a.m. to be considered on time. If students enter the building after 8:45 a.m., a parent should escort them to the main office and sign the "Student Sign-in" book.
The dismissal bell rings at 3:30 p.m.
Picking-Up a Child Early
If a student needs to be picked up from school prior to the end of the school day, notification must be sent to the teacher and the office via e-mail the day before.
If a student must leave unexpectedly, alert the office at least one hour ahead of time by calling 703-822-2200.
When students check out early from school, the office will call down to the classroom once parents arrive. Parents are to wait in the office and teachers will send students to the office.
Requests for students to leave after 3:15 p.m. will only be granted in cases of emergencies.
Planned Absences or Late Arrivals
For known absences or late arrivals to school, parents should notify the student's classroom teacher and office via e-mail in advance.
